Macabre Mansion welcomes Sadie Mason-Smith as Science Fiction Editor. Sadie has been with us for some time as a volunteer writer and has helped us out with convention coverage under the alias Liricos.
Sadie recently graduated magna cum laude with departmental honors in English from UAB in Birmingham, Alabama using Stargate SG-1 as her honors thesis topic, showing that geekery has its rewards (not that we didn't know that already). Her past experience includes an internship with PMT Publishing as well as passing the crucible of writing hell known as being an English Major. In addition she was Media Coordinator and Co-founder for the First UAB Zombie Outbreak Day. Her fandoms of fangirl love include Firefly, Dr. Who, Torchwood, Star Trek (mostly Voyager and TNG), Supernatural, Dr. Horrible, and of course Stargate SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis.
What do NASA, Boba Fett, boiled peanuts, and June 25th all have in common? That's right! The official Star Wars exhibit is coming to the Huntsville Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL, and it starts tomorrow (just kidding about the boiled peanuts, sorry)! For the first time showing in the Southeast USA, the Star Wars exhibit gives geekasms to die-hard fans with the freedom and ease of Obi-Wan influencing Storm Troopers' minds.

For the past few years, Birmingham has played host to a slowly growing science fiction convention known as ImagiCon, an event which caters to enthusiasts of nearly every realm of the science fiction genre. Scheduled as a weekend event, this year’s convention had upgraded from one location in 2009 to a 3 location event in 2010, with a varied selection of vendors, information booths, informational panels, contests, parties and soirees. Saturday’s array of booths, vendors, costumed cosplayers, media representatives, and honored guests was in no short supply. I had the distinct pleasure of attending a panel hosted by local corset makers Sharon Morgan, Scott Merrill, and Freddy Clements, which covered the basics of do-it-yourself corset construction,

This past weekend, we had the pleasure to visit Imagicon 2010 - a multi-genre convention held in Birmingham, AL. This was year number two for Imagicon. The event was held at multiple venues with the main two locations being "The McWane Center" and "Old Car Heaven". One huge problem with the multiple venues was the distance between them. You had to catch a shuttle which ran every half hour, so there was some considerable time spent waiting. I guess waiting 30 plus minutes for a shuttle beats no shuttle at all but it was frustrating.
